Choosing a colour palette for your Sydney newborn session with Storybook Photography by Rachael Attard can sometimes be tricky. Especially when there are so many options to choose from!
I always say that you can't go wrong with neutral tones. They will never date and the colours will work well with any kind of decor you have in your home. You can choose for your newborn photography session to be filled with beautiful soft and light neutral tones such as beige, white, Ivory, perhaps with some soft greens if you wish to add some colour, or you can go with darker shades of brown and earthy tones such as olive green, rust and mustard to add some contrast and wow factor to your images.
We recently had the opportunity to photograph a Dark and light neutral newborn photography in Sydney for Martin's newborn photos. We used beautiful dark brown tones mixed with various shades of brown and soft creams for a beautiful warm, yet fine art feel to the photos.
As for the family photos, Martin's family chose a classic white colour palette. All family members were dressed in beautiful, formal white clothing and were photographed on a backlit backdrop to produce a high key, white finish. The only time I don't mind everyone being dressed the same is when I photograph these gorgeous backlit images. There is something so very special, classic and elegant about an all white look in family photos during a newborn photography session.

Newborn Photography sessions really are so very special. I mean sure there is something super cute about putting a baby in a prop like a bucket, or a tiny bowl decorated witih beautiful textures, fabrics, flowers etc, but by far my favourite part, is watching mum and dad hold their brand new baby as they look at them. Smiles are always genuine and the love beams right through my entire studio. And don't even get me started on the siblings! I just LOVE working with newborns and their older brothers and sisters. Yes, sometimes it can be tricky and sometimes there are some cheeky attitudes at play, but with some patience and sometimes matching their energy, I can usually achieve some beautiful captures. Photos that show the beautiful growing bond between siblings, the curiosity that comes with being a big brother or sister, sometimes the protective sibling and sometimes, the best smiles when the sibling is proud to show off their new best friend.
Honestly, I have to pinch myself sometimes - I can't believe that I get to call this my job! It truly is so special and I feel so grateful everytime I am commissioned to capture a Sydney family and their personal journey.
